Intel Mobile Comm
Intel, as we all know, manufactures computer chips, pieces of silicon and metals that enable computers to make millions of calculations per second. Right now, typing this message or surfing the web would be impossible without the computer chip within my computer, hence the importance of computer chips in our life is evident.
"Inspired Innovation that’s Changing the World" -Intel
"Tomorrow needs more green" -Intel
This two 'missions' of Intel reflect a great deal about the way they operate. First, they want to change the way people live. Second, they want to do that without destroying the environment. They have lofty aims, and, amazingly have accomplished them. They improve their microprocessor at an astonishing rate, making them both smaller and more powerful. This has led them to be the top of the market, and 2 years ahead of their competitors.
However, there has been news on Intel "bribing" large electronics manufacturing companies such as Dell and Acer into using their chips. Many competitors such as AMD are angered, and AMD even threw a lawsuit against Intel. This agrees to a Confucious saying, "兵不厌诈" , which states that any strategy can be used in a battlefield to gain an advantage. Although this is not exactly "fair", but the world has never been fair.
At first, I thought Intel was just a company who made a small part of a computer, and its existence did not have a significant impact on the world. However, after my research, I understood that Intel is the heart of almost every computing device, making the chip that defines the most important specs of a computer. Its existence allows the computer to be able to function.
Being a manufacturer of computer chips, the physical properties of matter is of utmost important to them. The use of semiconductors such as silicon, as well as near perfect conductors of electricity such as Gold, is essential in the making of chips. These materials are modified in a process called doping which includes the addition of impurities to alter the electrical conductivity of an element.
Some projects that could be done would be to investigate the efficiency of microprocessors at different temperatures or at different energy inputs.
In the end, what is the best way of learning about a corporation than to visit it? I hope that visiting Intel will give insight to the technological world.
